Colin has been working crazy long hours the past couple months to get a project done. His deadline has finally come and so we get to see him more. Friday he came home pretty early so we made a quick decision to go camping. We were skeptical about finding a free spot because we’ve been burned before—lots of people camp in Utah. We picked up a little food and tried the first campground in the canyon and were amazed to find a spot. Maple Lake is really a fishing pond but it’s next to the most exquisite grove of old maple trees. It’s the best hide and seek spot ever. Jackson did a little fishing, we roasted marshmallows, I fought a sleep deprived baby to get her to sleep, we followed some deer around the maple grove, the kids played with glow sticks, I asked our loud neighbors to quiet down (they actually did!) and we all went to bed too late.
Natty is not used to not sleeping in her crib and bedroom so she didn’t sleep very well. She was up for the day at 5:30 and promptly got the other kids up too. But who camps just for a good night’s sleep? So we got up and went for a hike on the trail that goes out of the campground. We hiked to “Red Lake” which turned out to be a pond. Annie said “Mama found the puddle!” Both kids said that the hike was their least favorite part, but it was a lovely trail. We played hide and seek in the maples and headed home.
