Yellowstone

DSC_0346

Friday night, we had a second first birthday party for Jackson in Idaho Falls. Carolyn did another clever theme party of panda bears. Notice the cute panda bear cakes she made. Colin is such a good sport. We really enjoyed watching Jackson and his cousin Celeste play. She is a month younger, but is walking already. I think Jackson got some good tips on how to walk from her.

There have been many special Yellowstone trips. In fact, every Yellowstone trip is special and memorable in it’s own way.  This Yellowstone trip was special because it was Jackson’s first trip. It is very important to me that my children have many fond memories of family trips. Even though Jackson is too young to remember, we are off to a good start. The day was sunny and cold and there wasn’t the big crowds that are there in the summer. There were also a lot fewer animals this trip for some reason. We saw one bison (twice), which I was very surprised by; there are always bison and Old Faithful. Apparently the entire herd had moved east from the part of the park we went to.  We did see a few herds of elk and a some baby elk. One bald eagle, and that was it for animals. This trip was probably the shortest Yellowstone trip we have ever done, because I didn’t want to push Jackson’s limits too far.  We had a wonderful time!

I also wanted to mention how wonderful the fall colors were in Island Park. The aspens were fabulous and sometimes orange and red.  We couldn’t stop the car (and risk Jackson waking up) to get a decent picture. So imagine this picture without the power line, and that it wasn’t over exposed or taken out a moving car.
